1972 biography of the late Bill Ivy, the pint-size rebel-with-a-cause hero of late 60s motorcycle road racing, famed as much for his wild living and Barry Sheene-like personality (before anyone had heard of Barry) as for his amazing ability on 250 and 125 Yamahas and his bitter inter-team rivalry with fellow Brit, Phil Read for the world title in those categories in 1968.
He switched briefly to car racing in 1969, took to it like a duck to water and was competing in a motorcycle race in East Germany for Jawa in order to earn some money to further that side of his career when he was killed in a freak accident on the formation lap before the start.
Fellow racer Alan Peck recounts an unforgettable personality and a truly great rider taken from us far too young.
