Very atmospheric 10x8 inch (250x200mm) black and white photo of John Cobb's fantastic land speed record car NAPIER RAILTON SPECIAL.
This 4wd twin aero engined car held the record several times, before and after the war, finally running at over 400mph for the first time on land in 1947 and retaining the record untill 1964!.
This photo shows the car being built at THOMPSON & TAYLOR who's premises were located at the famous BROOKLANDS track south of London. The chassis is visible with it's twin W12 Napier Lion aero engines installed, a spare engine is visible against the back wall and the crew are working on the stunning one piece body . Great photo, lots of atmosphere and interest.
