A Highly charged photographic study of F1 Motor Racing at a time when the life expectancy of the Race Driver was not great - hence the title, a quote from Dan Gurney in the wake of a fatal accident. Actually it's a superb study in tension that progresses from preparation before the first practice sessions, the work undertaken during them, the build up to the race on the day and the race itself, both among the drivers and those in the pits and paddock. Most of the photos are from the 1961 or 62 F1 season and remind you of a PICTURE POST or TIME magazine photo feature of the era. 224 pages .
The book is said to have been the inspiration for both John Frankenhiemer's GRAND PRIX and Steve McQueen's DAY OF THE CHAMPION (unfinished) mid 1960s Hollywood F1 movies.
This is an ex library example with no jacket and the usual markings and stampings you would expect.
