Rare shot of the BMW 328 entered for A F P Fane at the 1938 RAC Tourist Trophy race at Donington Park. Seen here the car is apparently being worked on in practice (no crowd visible in the background) as seen from the back of the pit counter.

Fane was one of several BMW drivers in the event including the Mercedes GP ace Dick Seaman (see our store for a photo of him in this event) and the famous Prince Bira.~The RAC TT had been held on the road circuit at Ards near Belfast for the previous 10 years but a serious of serious accidents on the tricky course, including a fatality had seen the event moved to the newly extended Donington Park.

Fane, more famous for his Frazer Nash exploits which included beating Raymond Mays outright hill record at Shelsley Walsh, had a fairly unremarkable events finishing 11th , the race being won by Louis Gerard's Delage.

Fane was to die in the war serving as an RAF pilot.
