ORIGINALLY POSTED October 2014
There were INDIAN’s in the paddock (2 wheeled) MUSTANGS in the car park (4 wheeled) and a Wigwam.. (didn’t see any wheels in evidence there) . The fence was hung with stars-and-stripes bunting and two very tall men (that could have been the stilts..) with sharp suits dark glasses and violin cases mingled with a bizarre Laurel & Hardy tribute act (‘Ollie’ looking more like Charlie Chaplin in a fat suit to be honest). Add some rockabilly music and a Wall of Death (with more Indian bikes on display) and you get the idea this event has a distinct American theme. Except on track, curiously.

There did seem to be more Bugattis, Triumph TRs and Morgans than Chevrolets and Pontiacs going up the hill, competitively at any rate. Fastest run on Sunday was made by John Hewett in his glorious F5000 McLaren M18 – which suitably did have a Chevy V8 in the back and made all the right noises.

For pure Americana the entry boasted ‘Old Yeller’ , the famous 1950s Buick engined Hot Rod , terror of the SCCA road racing ranks in it’s day, Richard Falconer’s original front engined Mk1 Chaparall and VSCC stalwart Duncan Pittaway’s Plymouth Barracuda.

The WALL OF DEATH was a free attraction all weekend and hugely popular judging by the roars of approval audible at the end of every show.
A large crowd on Sunday enjoyed the autumn sunshine and a good time was generally had by all .

This was our last event of the season – it’s all mail order from now until, hopefully, we shall be back at Prescott next spring.
