Bathed in autumnal sunlight, Prescott Hillclimb played host of a diverse selection of Americana at the annual AUTUMN CLASSIC event and brought out the chequered flag on the 2014 season to the beat of V8 engines and the squeals of delight from the crowds flocking to the DEMON DROME Wall of death act in the paddock (those white marks on the floor of the drome you see on the right and £5 and £10 notes thrown down by appreciative spectators!)

H
ot rods mingled with pre-war Aston Martins , Bugattis with Allards, Indian motorcycles abounded and at the back of the paddock you were spoiled for choice between a black and gold Shelby GT350 Mustang and a glorious 1947 Hudson Super Six .

On the hill the eclectic nature of the entry was only enhanced by cavalcades of choppers and steam cars which chuffed and whistled along in fine style in between the high speed competitive runs.

On Saturday night the restaurant, decked out in stars and strips bunting, served a ‘thanksgiving’ meal and live music playedinto the night . Although when the singer announced “now for some real American rock n roll!” they went straight into a Beatles number…followed by Elton John’s ‘Crocodile Rock’…It wouldn’t be Prescott without the stilt-walkers – this time appearing as the tallest Blues Brother tribute act on record and here in conversation with their regular groupie Elinor of Hergest Handmade Handbags and Bugatti driver Paul Tebbett.

I spent Friday and Saturday evenings in the company of the Prescott Marshalls who are a great bunch and on this ocassion Dave, Vicki and the others, along with ‘Pilbeam Mick’ & myself were treated to a delicious coffee cake hand-made by Elinor who can bake as well as she makes handbags and ties. ‘thanksgiving’ meal and live music played into the night – although It wouldn’t be Prescott without the stilt-walkers – this time appearing as the tallest Blues Brother tribute act on record and here in conversation with their regular groupie Elinor of Hergest Handmade Handbags and Bugatti driver Paul Tebbett. Laurel & Hardie put in an appearance too, Ollie explaining to anyone who’d listen that the Ice Cream from Bob’s van was what had made him put on a few pounds…
This event saw the return to Prescott of my friend, well known midlands rescue marshall Tim Hull who’s been a bit poorly of late . Everyone was glad to see him back where he belongs , along with his two dogs Felix and Oskar, and equally glad that his services were not called for all weekend!
Sunday was bright and clear with a big crowd and fastest time of the day to the 1970’s GRD former F3 car of John Hewitt – probabaly the first FTD a GRD has ever recorded in a hillclimb?

And mention must be made of the three delightful ‘flappers’ who struck a suitable pose the moment anyone pointed a camera at them…
That wraps up my events for the season, at least as far as I have planned it so far (you never know what may turn up!)
Looking forward to getting back to Prescott in the spring !
