Lawler caused a sensation in 1984 appearing with the ex Prost M30. The car still featured Prost's name by the roll hoop and most of it's original Marlboro livery from the end of 1980 - plus a few hastily slapped on LEP stickers to satisfy his sponsor.

The McLaren was immediately the car to beat winning at Combe  in August and October 1984 and breaking Trimmer's recently established circuit record, broke it again in July 1985 when finishing 2nd to the F5000 Lola and I think Lawler also won back to back National Libre titles in 1984 and 1985

Then it all went wrong in October 1986. Lawler had a hefty accident at the high speed Old Paddock corner in practice and was launched off the bank that bordered the track in those days. Some reports mentioned an altitude of 30 feet. Damage to the front of the car was considerable.

It was repaired and continued to win in the national Open series until around 1989 but did the car reappear at Combe after the 1986 shunt?

It passed to George Nuse and more recently Sean Allen in the US who runs the car in the Historic Grand Prix series.
